Wood sports floors

We install wood sports hall floors, gymnasium wood floors and dance studio floors.

Springbok Precisionaire wood sports floor
Springbok Precisionaire is an area elastic advanced sprung floor comprising solid hardwood strip fixed to overlapping treated joists supported at designed intervals by 10mm rubber pads which form a permanent cushion between the floor and the concrete subfloor. The rubber pads provide a calculated resilience designed to minimise player fatigue and reduce physiological damage caused by impacts. The unique construction of the pads, include a specially formulated rubber which will not significantly harden or deteriorate over the life of the floor with alternating air cells incorporated into the design which permit encapsulated air to be expelled through the perimiter voids when the pad is compressed. The controlled inhalation and expulsion of air provides the critical shock absorption qualities of the floor which reduce stress injury during use and provide a true ball response.

Springbok Precisionaire is ideal for use in sports halls, squash courts, dance floors and recreation halls. The system conforms to BS8201, BS 7044 part 2 and is recommended by the SRA for squash courts.

The system can be installed with prefinished (finished with 5 coats of UV cured lacquer) or unfinished solid hard wood boards. For squash courts unfinished boards are recommended which can be rough sanded after installation to provide an even and excellent grip surface. Recommended timber types are prime/first or country grade maple or beech. (Unfinished boards will generally require sanding and sealing on site - see floor sanding). For maintenance requirements see floor maintenance.

Specification and site requirements

  • 57mm or 63mm wide and 22mm thick random length tongue and groove boards
  • 1800mm x 50mm x 40mm treated joists with 10mm rubber pads set at 314mm centres
  • Weighs 16kg/m2
  • Will support 5kN/m2 in accordance with BS6399:Part 1:1984
  • Finished height above screed 72mm (with 50mm battens - this can be increased with thicker battens but not reduced)
  • Concrete subfloor needs to be level to a tolerance of +/-2mm over 2m and with a finish equivalent to that produced by a wood float
  • Moisture content of floor and walls not greater than 8%
  • Relative humidity between 40% and 60%
  • A vapour barrier is recommended for ground floor installations

Springbok Arenasport wood sports floor
Springbok Arenasport is an area elastic advanced sprung floor comprising laminate hardwood strip fixed to overlapping treated joists supported at designed intervals by 10mm rubber pads which form a permanent cushion between the floor and the concrete subfloor.

Springbok Arenasport is ideal for use in sports halls, squash courts, dance floors and recreation halls. The system conforms to BS8201 and BS 7044 part 2.

The system is installed with prefinished (finished with 5 coats of UV cured lacquer) hard wood laminate boards. Additional coats of seal can be applied after installation if required. Recommended timber types are maple, beech or oak. For maintenance requirements see floor maintenance.

Boflex wood sports floor
The Boflex sports flooring system is an area elastic bio-mechanically engineered sports surface designed to provide outstanding realistic resilience and substantially reduce the risk of stress injury in indoor sport and recreation. Boflex requires no understructure as each board has its own integral resilient strips of special foam for shock absorption and with an overall height of 28mm this system is ideal for refurbishments.

Boflex has been fully tested to meet DIN18032 Part II and BS 7044 Part 4, acknowledged internationally as recognised criteria for sports floors. Boflex is a multi use sports and recreational surface and is particularly suitable for aerobics, dance and gymnastics.

Each board consists of 3-ply laminate with a 4mm hardwood wearing surface backed with 2 layers of softwood, cross-layered to provide exceptional dimensional stability. Each board is provided with a unique double tongue to ensure adequate lateral strength and rigidity (and are glued on site to ensure a stable and smooth surface) and inset to each board are two Evazote 50 resilient foam strips which provide the systems major resilient and shock absorption qualities. Each board is factory finished and sealed with five coats of UV cured lacquer. Parquet wood flooring is combustable but not easy to ignite. Recommended timber types are Maple, Ash and Norwegian Oak. All hardwood used is taken from managed sustainable sources. For maintenance requirements see floor maintenance.
